Welcome to Greenberg Counseling, where your journey to healing and growth begins. I am Dr. Jennifer Greenberg, PhD, LCSW-C, LICSW, CST-S, CSCT, C-PST®, a highly experienced Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist based in Bethesda, MD. I’m delighted you are exploring the possibility of seeking support in your personal or relational journey. TEST

ABOUT ME

As an Integrative Sex and Couples therapist, I understand the complexities of relationships and the importance of dedicated effort in nurturing them. My practice is committed to supporting individuals and couples seeking growth and transformation. From addressing anxiety and depression to enhancing sexual functioning and communication, I offer tailored interventions to help you and your partner(s) reintegrate authenticity into your lives.

With extensive experience spanning various demographics, including military personnel and their families, LGBTQ+ individuals, kink/poly relationships, and expatriates, I bring a nuanced understanding of diverse life experiences into my practice. Moreover, my background in working with combat-related distress, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and post-deployment reintegration equips me to address unique challenges faced by individuals and families in these contexts.

In work and life, I am committed to working from a perspective of intersectionality and advocacy for those who have been marginalized by society and the impact of social identities on psychological distress.  For me, this means holding space for people of color (POC), LGBTQ+, as well as those impacted by (as so aptly identified by Emily Nagoski) the “industrial bikini complex.”   One of my core values is cultural humility, and I strive to recognize blind spots and implicit biases so that I can actively participate in social justice and change from within.

I approach therapy from an Integrative Sex and Couples Therapy perspective, integrating elements from IMAGO therapeutic techniques, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Out-of-Control Sexual Behavior (OCSB), and Feminist Theory, among others. In Integrative Sex and Couples Therapy, we actively focus on individual and relationship dynamics to foster healthy sexual relationships and effective communication. This approach ensures that therapy is tailored to your needs and preferences, fostering a collaborative and empowering therapeutic relationship.

Furthermore, I am a staunch advocate of the Health at Every Size (HAES) principles endorsed by the Association for Size Diversity and Health (ASDAH). Embracing a holistic view of health, HAES acknowledges that health is multifaceted and not solely determined by physical or mental well-being. As such, I strive to create a nonjudgmental and inclusive space where individuals of all sizes and abilities feel valued and respected.

I am also devoted to supporting all bodies through perimenopause, menopause, and the aging process. As such, I help clients identify questions for their medical providers to ensure that answers to unknowns are explored and provided. I find it outrageous that it may take some people 10+ years to arrive at diagnoses. I often talk with clients about what questions to ask their providers and help them make informed decisions about medical care.

In addition to my clinical practice, in August 2024, I completed my PhD in Counseling, specializing in Human Sexuality and Sex Therapy, with a research focus on Reading Romance and Relationships. This groundbreaking research explored romance novels’ role in enhancing intimacy and sexual bonding within relationships.

Virtual Therapy

I currently practice virtual therapy (phone or video) in Maryland, DC, Virginia, New Jersey, and overseas. I use a HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliant platform called Simple Practice. Here’s a little about how it works: You will receive a reminder for our appointment, including a link to our meeting space in Simple Practice. The link will change for every appointment, so please check the reminder emails and texts. At the arranged time of our session, I will call you through the Simple Practice program to establish a video connection. We will spend our time together, and once our session has ended, you can close out the program until our next scheduled session.

Before our first session, I will send you a link to my practice portal, where you will complete paperwork related to your visit (practice policies, intake forms, emergency contact(s), and billing information.  During our first session, we will spend time getting to know each other, building rapport, reviewing your paperwork, signing releases of information (as needed), and discussing your therapy goals.

FEES & INSURANCE

Initial Sessions are 75-80 minutes, and follow-up appointments are 50 minutes. Rates are listed below.

Payment is due at the time of service, and I accept all major credit cards.

I do not accept insurance; however, I will provide a superbill containing the information required for out-of-pocket reimbursement from your insurance company.

Additionally, as of January 1, 2022, under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, healthcare providers, and healthcare facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.

You can receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, healthcare providers must give patients without insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

You can receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes expenses like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

Ensure your healthcare provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your healthcare provider and any other provider you choose for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

If you receive a bill at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises

*Payment for services is due at the time of service, and at the end of each month, I will provide you with a super-bill that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

**Please note that Relationship Therapy is considered an out-of-pocket service and is not covered by insurance, however you can contact your insurance to confirm this.
